Hey Jon,

Thanks for the reference to oConomy and thanks to others for the comments. We see a lot of interesting trends in hourly rates and intend to keep sharing more data. A couple minor insights:

*As of a year ago, the vast majority of our network was offshore, but the number of US-based freelancers is growing very rapidly. (thus starting to increase average rates)
*We’re starting to see more and more of the experienced providers on oDesk double or triple their rates.
*Data entry (at low rates) is an expanding category as well, thus bring the averages down.

We’re planning to refine the way we share the data so these trends become clear. Any feedback is welcome.

Just checked out Odesk… 10$ an hour is the big winner rate? OUCH! I think some people could use those three links you posted about setting rates ;)
