Building A Perfect Website? Are You Too Perfectionist?
Posted February 26, 2008 in Productivity
Most online entrepreneurs seem to think that each and every one of their projects needs to be perfect, that flaws are simply not acceptable and, of course, that they shouldn’t even think of launching a certain project until it can’t be considered the definition of perfection. Is that your case as well?
Why on Earth would you think that something man-made can be perfect? Sorry to burst your bubble there, but us humans are flawed by nature, that’s simply the way things stand.
More than a few online entrepreneurs think that every website they launch needs to be perfect, and, as a result, end up spending far more time than necessary on a project in order to deal with all sorts of minor details which no one but themselves will even notice. [Click Here to Read More...]

How To Avoid Procrastination As A Freelancer
Posted February 22, 2008 in Productivity
Freelancers have the luxury to work their own hours, with who they want and even work from Starbucks if they want, but a lot of things can lead to procrastination. If you overdo things the luxury soon turns into a curse. Get into the habit of procrastinating and you might as well consider yourself doomed.
For those who have never experienced this: procrastination is a tendency to indulge in the unnecessary in order to avoid doing the necessary. It’s like there is some task that you have to perform and it is either very difficult or very boring or you don’t want to do it simply because you cannot avoid it. When you procrastinate you do everything under the sun but the work that you are supposed to do, even when that work is as serious as earning your bread-and-butter. [Click Here to Read More...]
Patience and Online Business ? A Winning Combination?
Posted February 21, 2008 in Uncategorized
When doing business online, is patience something that will help you succeed in the long run or on the other hand, will it just slow you down?
Everything is dynamic as far as the Web is concerned, so that it’s easy to understand why some people don’t exactly see online business and patience as a winning combination. Is that really how things stand, is there no room for patience in this industry?
Yes and no. Of course, having too much patience is never recommended, since it could end up keeping you from trying alternatives on for size. Let’s take website monetization as an example. If a certain company or even ad format is not working for you, then having too much patience is definitely not recommended. You can stick with it for another week or even another month, but if the results are simply not worthwhile then looking into other options is simply a must. [Click Here to Read More...]
No Tech Skills? Give Freelance Writing A Try
Posted February 19, 2008 in Writing
I have never been one to hide the fact that I have no tech skills. In other words, I don’t know much about coding, designing pretty websites, or troubleshooting. So when I decided to try my hand at making money online, opportunities were limited. Since I received my college degree in journalism, I figured that giving online freelance writing a try was a great choice. That was three years ago, and I have yet to look back.
If you do not have technical skills, this does not mean that you have no chance of making money online. Just like design and coding is not for everybody, the same thing holds true for freelance writing. But if you can write solid English that is easy to read, there is a good chance that you can make money as a freelance writer.
Does this all sound good to you? If so, here are some steps for starting a freelance writing career. You may not follow them in the order below, but you will definitely encounter each step somewhere along the path to success. [Click Here to Read More...]
Open Thread: Do You Feel Secure?
Posted February 19, 2008 in Business, Open Thread
Some time ago the folks at Freelance Switch had this survey (I’m sure you’ve heard of it by now), 3,700 freelancers responded and now we get to see the results. If you took part in the survey you probably already received the PDF report, if you didn’t participate you can make a donation (of at least $3, more is better) to get the report.
So since I took part in the survey I got the PDF (55 pages), I read it all, and there’s this one thing that really made me go ‘woah’:
How To Get Paid Freelance Work While You’re Still A Design Student
Posted February 18, 2008 in Graphic Design, How-To, Web Design
As a second year graphic design student myself and an active freelancer, I want to share some tips on how to get paid freelance work while you are still a graphic design student.
For most 1st, 2nd or 3rd year students, finding a part time or even casual job in the design industry is quite frustrating and nearly impossible and most resort to working at their local store, however, there is hope – I am living proof that a design student can get a job in design while still studying, here are my tips.
The Problems:
The problems most design students will face is they do not yet have the skills needed to be a professional designer as they do not have a reputable portfolio or any knowledge about dealing with clients, budgeting or time management – and they are still trying to figure out the good ol’ pen tool. Let’s have a look at these problems. [Click Here to Read More...]
