What you say is right. Some people have all sorts of wrong notions about making money online. I run a small software services business. 99% of the time our communication with clients, vendors and the community are through Internet only.

The business would work the same way even if I was alone doing this.

Terrific stuff. I think far too many people think that the path to money is easy today, with the very public and lauded cases of those that have made it with what seems like little effort. But in reality, those success stories that may look effortless are really hard-fought. And success that has staying power, and that really contributes something, are results of someone busting their ass for it. To me, that's inspiring. It means success and riches isn't just blind luck. It means if I keep working hard, I have potential to reward myself mentally and monetarily.

I started working online last year and it most definitely is work. Some freelance jobs I really enjoy, some are just grunt work. To get that paycheck coming in, I have to churn out the effort-- it certainly isn't relaxing and eating bon bons all the time. :)

One thing to think about when considering "online work" is how YOU yourself react to the Comments section of a site and how your reaction might end up eating up more of your time than you'd planned.

For example: a friend of mine got work with some site that hired her and others to put up individual blogs and write pieces about topics (parenting, current events, crafts, traveling, etc.). She found that she had a devoted core of readers who would comment and get into back-and-forth discussions or even occasionally arguments---often in "real time"; meaning, they wouldn't let much time go by before responding to one another. I guess they all had the same schedule! She herself was an active participant in the discussions. Anyway, she found herself unable to resist constantly checking in on the commentary and participating, providing links to articles she would feel compelled to post to back up any comment she had made. She said she could easily spend almost an entire workday more or less chained to the computer, chatting with people, just to maintain the discussions, but also wondering and worrying about how people would react to comments. I don't know what she was getting paid in the first place, but in the end she left the blog because she said after factoring in all the hours she was there, it didn't really pay.

I thought this was very interesting.

This post point out that working at home is not a myth but a reality to be cultivated in order to become successful. I do agree 100% with alan. Great post!

Well put. This post served as a motivator for me. It put me in a headspace to do an accountability check on myself. I feel I have some good perspective right now. Thanks...

Alan, you hit the nail with this statment
"If you actually think that becoming successful without giving it 110% is possible, then you may just be in for quite a reality check if you don’t wake up and change your way of thinking."

I 120% agree with this statment. Most of the people that want to make a living online think it's as easy as sitting in front of a computer in pajamas. Well, the pajama part might be right but anything else is far from true.

I will have to admit that I was among the same group who think earning online is as easy as it can be. Since then my view towards this whole approach has changed. I myself find myself putting 125% into this and now I am starting to reap the rewards. All in all, I would like to say that it's all pain at first but consistency , as with anything else, will pay up when it comes to making money online.
