Freelance Folder Turns One – Let’s Celebrate This With A Contest (Our Very First)
Posted July 23, 2008 in News
Yes, today is our birthday! I launched Freelance Folder on July 23rd 2007, exactly a year ago. Wow, a year already! Crazy huh?
A lot of things have changed since I launched this little side project! Well, it didn’t took me long to realize that was going to be more than just a side project! ‘Working on Freelance Folder” quickly climbed all the way to the top of my everyday to-do list. :)
What Happened In The Last Year?
In the last year Freelance Folder went through 4 (or was it 5?) redesigns, we published over 300 posts written by freelancers from all over the world, and have been featured on tons of websites and blogs from LifeHacker and LifeHack to FreelanceSwitch and even ABC News.
Needless to say that the last year has been awesome! So I thought we could celebrate this with a contest! I’m sure you won’t mind. Drinks are on me!
The Birthday Contest
So far we have over $1,000 worth of prizes, and we will certainly have more real soon. The folks at Freshbooks, Fruitful Time, and UPrinting kindly accepted to donate a prize, and we will also chip in with items from Behance Outfitter and oh… maybe an EeePc? Also, we’re actively looking for sponsors, so if you would like to support us and donate a prize, drop me a line anytime!
Official rules and guidelines for the contest will be posted next week but in the meantime why not let us know what prizes you would like? This blog would be nothing without you folks, so the least we can do is ask for your ideas! So, tell us what prizes you think would be cool and we’ll try to make it happen!
The whole team would like to thank all of you for participating in discussions, helping fellow freelancers out and helping us make this blog what it is! Your comments, emails and questions are always appreciated! You rock! :)
That’s it for now! Look for another post about the contest next week!
Cheers
Jon

July 24th, 2008 at 7:43 amCongratulations! I think I started reading the site just after it launched (but not knowing it was a new blog) and never would have guessed. FF is a constant in my RSS morning lists.
What about some services which could help people further along in their freelancing endeavours? i.e. an hour of time in consultation with one of your amazing authors to discuss particulars of a persons goals, blog development, copywriting assistance, etc. Or the chance to have your site / service / etc reviewed through a blog post that involves the community? Sort of using one prize to make two prizes similar to the Community Blog Consultationg that ProBlogger did some time ago.

July 24th, 2008 at 10:32 amYou know what I would like – lots and lots of Moleskines. As long as we are wishing, I like the quadrille style, fat ones or skinny ones, but no reporter style.
Thank you for facilitating this moment of fantasy-land.

A nice prize would be a blog entry by the winner I think, about anything freelance related. (along with maybe a woot.com gift card or something.. haha)

July 24th, 2008 at 3:46 pmCongratulations!! I like the site and check in regularly. Long may you continue.
Any prize should be international-friendly, I’d say, as us freelancers can be anywhere – lots of websites don’t deliver worldwide.

July 24th, 2008 at 4:33 pmVery cool, and happy birthday, Jon. As one of the newish, if not newest, contributors, let me just say how much a privilege it’s been writing here, and how awesome a community you’ve built up over the last year.
I’m humbled to be included among such great a company of freelancers. Truly.

July 25th, 2008 at 6:01 amCongratulations on being a year old!
I hope to be as successful when my first year comes up, great work. This website has been fantastic for me, because I work as a webdesigner but in a company, and want to one day become freelance and this website has helped me so much. Well done.
Whereas prizes? hmm, well it all depends on the budget really, but as someone said before, a Mac would be a pretty awesome prize, and I’m sure many people would enter then.

July 25th, 2008 at 7:00 amBooks! Lots and lots of books! Preferably science books (well, that’s just me)!
I also like the idea of software, but have no idea what sort of software package most people who read this would like.

July 26th, 2008 at 5:18 pmHappy Birthday Jon and Crew!!!! I am so proud to be a part of the team here at FF! I always find something I can draw inspiration from or learn from on this site. I hope the next ten years are as amazing for you as this first year has been. Thank you for letting me be a part of such a wonderful dream.
Prizes for your contest might include the new Adobe CS3 software. All of it is wonderful and is available for PC or Mac’s. The gift certificates for Amazon.com would be pretty cool too. I constantly find good buys over there!
