Giving Back – Will You Help Us?

Posted April 20, 2008 in News 5 Comments »

Hello everyone! Our very own Lois Knight sent me an email a couple days ago to see if I’d be willing to post an article about the Community & Children’s Impact Center, and of course I told her yes. The goal here is not only to let people know about it but also ask people for donations.

Please take a minute to read the post and if you can, even a small donation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jon

Community & Children’s Impact Center

by Lois Knight

CCIC - LogoBrenda Myer’s vision came to her in a dream after a car accident in 2004. Help the children in our community. Give them a positive place to go and do things instead of just ‘hanging out” and getting in trouble with drugs and violence. Today, Brenda is the driving force behind Community & Children’s Impact Center, a non profit organization dedicated to giving young people a second chance, away from the harsh realities of the streets.

Funded through contributions from area businesses and private citizens, CCIC has grown into a recognized name in this area. Regular events including “Make Me a Star” and the “Halloween Bash” with the “3 Acre Maze” let kids explore their talents or just have some fun without worrying about getting shot or the fear of drugs. These events have drawn crowds numbering in the hundreds and are continuing to grow as more people learn of CCIC’s message.

Educational Workshops On Career Training And Choices

Last year CCIC was able to give five $100 scholarships to local high school graduates to help with the rising cost of education. This year the number of applicants has doubled. One of the goals of CCIC is to offer educational workshops on Career training and choices, Studying for a High School Diploma, College, and a variety of other topics still being decided.

Brenda Myers and CCIC Could Use Your Help

Recently the Board of Directors decided CCIC had outgrown its humble beginnings in Brenda’s garage and there was a need for CCIC to have its own land and building to continue growing and expanding. A local businessman generously donated the 30’ X 60’ building and the cost of moving it to its new home when the time comes. But buying land is expensive in Southeast Texas, especially acreages, which is what is needed to accommodate everything. It is a huge undertaking for one tiny woman named Brenda Myers and CCIC needs a little help.

What If Everyone That Read This Donated Just $1?

For the past several months I have volunteered my time and services to help this organization get the word out and grow. And I’m writing this today because I believe in Brenda’s dream of giving kids a choice to stay clean and away from violence. But she can’t do it alone. We need your help. If everyone that read this donated just $1(US), the land could be bought and many of the needed items for the kids could be purchased. If you can afford more we could sure use the help, but if you only have a dollar it will still make a world of difference to a kid on the streets.

The CCIC has a donations link set up over at PayPal for your convenience. Simply log on to www.PayPal.com and enter Make a payment to bmyersimpact [at] att.net or if you would like to donate equipment or supplies for the kids here’s a list the most needed items:

  • Computers/Software
  • Printers
  • Office Supplies
  • Furniture
  • Athletic Equipment
  • T-Shirts/Sweatshirts w/logo
  • Prizes to give out at events
  • Remember, these donations are all tax deductible so keep track! Send your supplies or monetary contributions to:

    CCIC
    317 Cr 2199
    Cleveland, TX 77327

Every little bit counts when you’re saving the live of a child. Help us save these kids. The next one could be yours!

Thanks Lois, that’s so refreshing to read about someone actually trying to do something reach out to the kids.

I’m trying to my own passive bit by carrying banners for Time To Talk… but I know that’s just not enough.

So, you should expect to see my little contribution on PayPal in about ten minutes.

      Good luck :)
