Happy New Year from FreelanceFolder!
Posted January 1, 2009 in News 6 Comments »
At last, 2009 is here. The previous year is behind us and it’s time to start looking forward.
Along with the new year comes a lot of thinking and self-reflection. At Freelance Folder, our definition of ’self’ is really you guys, so I thought it would be a good idea to share some of our history, thoughts, and plans with everyone.
Looking back at 2008
2008 was a very big year for FreelanceFolder. We started off in January with a bang by launching a new redesign (we like to do that around here). Not long after that, we also added the community links section of the site.
In July, FreelanceFolder turned 1 year old. In honor of our first birthday we decided to run a contest — which was a big hit, and we gave away a ton of cool prizes.
July was also when Jon and I began talking about transferring the site ownership into my hands. He was getting too busy with design work and his band, so he was looking for a someone who could take over full-time management and keep things going in the right direction. That someone turned out to be me :-)
Towards the end of the year we had several more upgrades. In September we launched another redesign (I told you we liked redesigns) and added the new freelance forums to the site. We also rolled out a few updates to the community links section shortly thereafter.
Looking forward to 2009
It’s easy to forget, but FreelanceFolder is actually pretty young. 2009 will be our second full year in existence, so we’ve got a lot of goals and aspirations. Here are a few things we have planned:
- A new and better logo. We know the current one isn’t really cutting it :-)
- The new Unlimited Freelancer Book is going to be launching in less than two weeks (nice!).
- We’ll be continuing to improve and grow the forums. They’re still very new but are already showing huge potential.
- More Freelance Swag. We’re working with a few designers to get some cool stuff put together. We already gave away the “Freelancer At Work” door hangers, but we have plans for a lot more.
- A few other things I can’t talk about yet… You’ll hear more about them soon.
What are your plans for 2009?
What are you going to do in 2009? Are there any special goals or aspirations you’d like to tell everyone about?
Do you have any ideas for us, things you might like to see with FreelanceFolder?

January 1st, 2009 at 5:13 pmI am close (within weeks) of launching my first Template for ExpressionEngine. This will be a first for EE. It is also a goal I set for myself about 6 months ago so…

My 2009 plans are to continue building my client list, joining a writing association, and taking a few writing workshops. One can never learn enough.

I plan to become a more committed blogger, too.

January 2nd, 2009 at 9:30 am@Marcus — that’s awesome, as an EE user I’m very excited to see this type of development. Wordpress has quite enough themes, EE on the other hand is lacking :-)
@Shevonne and Joanne — I’m right there with you on the learning. I have a stack of 15 books I need to read, and I just have to make more time for it.

January 2nd, 2009 at 3:31 pmHappy New Year everyone!
My big goal for 2009 is increasing the value I provide for my clients. I believe the best way to do that is to really focus on what my clients are really after.
As well, I think I have at least a little wisdom I can share with my friends. I think I’m gonna put a little more effort into my blog this year. :)
