I just came across this post while looking for related info. I have to say that I’m not really impressed by this elevator pitch. I think it’s too wordy, and really, what writer uses run on sentences? I go for the short and sweet hooks. Here are a few examples one writer (Jay Lipe) details in his book, “Stand Out from the Crowd”:

“I’m a landscape gardener. I turn the world green.”
“I’m a midwife. I bring life into this world.”
“I’m a nutritionist. I teach people how to behave in front of food.”
“I’m a voice coach. I give voice to the timid.”

Lipe suggests that you then follow-up with “I work with (type of clients) who (type of need or problem they face).

Short, sweet, and hooks me right in.

Great article. Another tip for making an awesome elevator pitch is at the end of your pitch, you must ask for something. Do you want their business card, to schedule a full presentation, to ask for a referral? Simply ask for something.
