Merry Christmas From Everyone At Freelance Folder
Posted December 24, 2007 in Uncategorized
Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing good. I’m sure you’re busy getting ready for Christmas, shopping for that last minute gift, cooking, cleaning the house or getting ready to go out. Well here we thought it would be nice to give you a little something for Christmas and I’d also like to ask for your help, read on. :)
First of all our productivity expert Dave Navarro has kindly accepted to give away his ‘More Time‘ report, no need to subscribe to his newsletter (although it would be nice if you subscribed, it’s worth it). You can download it in PDF format, for free.
Also, I want to give some money to Kiva.org, a non-profit organization that helps entrepreneurs in the developing world. For those of you not familiar with Kiva it’s a ‘micro-loan‘ service, you simply give money (as little as $25) or get a gift card, and this money goes to entrepreneurs and small business owners in the developing world.
Here’s how Kiva works:
Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can “sponsor a business” and help the world’s working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.
This is a loan, not a donation, so these people actually have to repay the loan, meaning you eventually get your money back and you can then lend it to another entrepreneur. I think it’s a really nice way to show some support to fellow entrepreneurs.
So here’s the deal, leave a comment on this post and tell us how you prepared for Christmas. Did you start preparing a week/month in advance? Do you still work during the holidays? What do you do? Vacation, spending time with family and friends? Got invited by a client to a Christmas party? Tell us by leaving a comment below and if we get 20+ comments on this post I’ll send $50 to Kiva.org (I’ll probably send it anyway).
Next, I’m working on a redesign for FreelanceFolder, the current design is ‘ok‘ but was put together in less than an hour, and this blog could really benefit from a redesign. It’s on its way, and should be up begining of 2008 but I’d like to ask you folks, what would you like to see? Maybe a CSS gallery section? A discussion forum? Feel free to make suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and for all of you WordPressers here are 10 Christmas WP theme :)
Merry Christmas!
I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and thank you for all the support, comments, e-mails and suggestions since we launched this site back in July 07 (can’t believe it’s been almost 6 months since we launched this site!).
Don’t drink and drive (leave your keys in the car and lock the doors). Say hi to gram-ma! Happy Holidays! :)

December 24th, 2007 at 11:04 pmI started preparing for Christmas right after Thanksgiving. I had all of my Christmas shopping done by Wednesday the following week. My dad and I put up the Tree and the outside decorations up over Thanksgiving weekend. And we pretty much had almost everything ready to go weeks in advance.
This normally doesn’t happen though. Usually it is all a big unorganized mess. I think the reason it went down so well and got done so fast was partly because I was so motivated and excited since I had just gotten out of the Navy on November 16th, and got home the day before Thanksgiving.
This is the first time I have been home for actual Christmas Day in 5 years. I always took New Years off instead because if I took Christmas, I would have to go back to my duty station the day after Christmas.
Back to stuff we did, after we had the majority of everything ready for Christmas, my dad and I went back to work starting a Real Estate Redevelopment Company. So we have been working alot, but it is exciting so we don’t mind it.
Great blog, and I think it’s awesome you are donating to Kiva.

December 25th, 2007 at 11:29 amMerry Christmas Jon! I have quite a bit of holiday shopping left to do. It’s kind of funny cause it’s the 25th already and I still haven’t finished buying all the gifts yet.
Alright I should head out and go buy some last minute stuff. This is exactly why I haven’t finished buying everything yet ;-)

December 25th, 2007 at 2:30 pmKiva is a fantastic organization…we’ve loaned money through Kiva for a couple of years now. It’s really cool to watch the progress of the recipient businesses, and even better to watch them pay back the loan and reinvest in another business. :-)
I started preparing for Christmas in November. We cover most of our gift list with donations to organizations like UNICEF, Heifer International, or Oxfam America (and Kiva gift cards!). Donations are less stressful, and it’s much more satisfying than giving gifts to people who really don’t need anything. We still buy presents for the nephews and niece, so I can’t avoid the mall entirely.
I am taking today off, and I might be taking random bits and pieces of upcoming days off as opportunities present themselves.
Merry Christmas, and keep up the good work!

December 25th, 2007 at 5:48 pmI actually don’t do much this days, I just sleep all day long, I really needed good sleep and I didn’t even have to prepare for this (and I almost oversleep shop working hours and forgot to buy gifts.. that would be hard to explain to girlfriend..) :)
Merry Christman to you too and contiunue good work you’re doing!

December 25th, 2007 at 6:48 pmI started preparing for Christmas as early as last January. If that sounds overly prepared, don’t worry, it’s not. I finished preparing yesterday (the 24th). I travel a lot and like to pick things up for people throughout the travels, never knowing if I’ll be back that way. Throw in a healthy dose of contributions (promarily Heiffer) and it all works out nicely.
I tend not to work during Christmas, but I do read and plan upcoming writings and research. It helps when you work on something you love and the line between work and play becomes increasingly blurry.
Merry Christmas and a big thanks. Safe celebrations for all!

December 26th, 2007 at 1:04 pmI usually start preparing around August, basically because i take an age to decide on presents! I do most of my shopping online because i hate the insane christmas rush around November/December and because its less expensive and hassle free – just don’t order something on the 24th!
I never work during the christmas week which i always find difficult for a day or two but i usually get into the relaxing groove and just enjoy spending time with family and friends. Our tradition on christmas day is watching a movie in the afternoon which means getting everyone on the sofas around our fire and cracking open a few tins of quality street and celebrations!
Hoping everyone is having a great christmas! :-)
