I usually start preparing around August, basically because i take an age to decide on presents! I do most of my shopping online because i hate the insane christmas rush around November/December and because its less expensive and hassle free - just don't order something on the 24th!

I never work during the christmas week which i always find difficult for a day or two but i usually get into the relaxing groove and just enjoy spending time with family and friends. Our tradition on christmas day is watching a movie in the afternoon which means getting everyone on the sofas around our fire and cracking open a few tins of quality street and celebrations!

Hoping everyone is having a great christmas! :-)

I started preparing for Christmas as early as last January. If that sounds overly prepared, don't worry, it's not. I finished preparing yesterday (the 24th). I travel a lot and like to pick things up for people throughout the travels, never knowing if I'll be back that way. Throw in a healthy dose of contributions (promarily Heiffer) and it all works out nicely.

I tend not to work during Christmas, but I do read and plan upcoming writings and research. It helps when you work on something you love and the line between work and play becomes increasingly blurry.

Merry Christmas and a big thanks. Safe celebrations for all!

Kiva is a fantastic organization...we've loaned money through Kiva for a couple of years now. It's really cool to watch the progress of the recipient businesses, and even better to watch them pay back the loan and reinvest in another business. :-)

I started preparing for Christmas in November. We cover most of our gift list with donations to organizations like UNICEF, Heifer International, or Oxfam America (and Kiva gift cards!). Donations are less stressful, and it's much more satisfying than giving gifts to people who really don't need anything. We still buy presents for the nephews and niece, so I can't avoid the mall entirely.

I am taking today off, and I might be taking random bits and pieces of upcoming days off as opportunities present themselves.

Merry Christmas, and keep up the good work!

Merry Christmas Jon! I have quite a bit of holiday shopping left to do. It's kind of funny cause it's the 25th already and I still haven't finished buying all the gifts yet.

Alright I should head out and go buy some last minute stuff. This is exactly why I haven't finished buying everything yet ;-)

I started preparing for Christmas right after Thanksgiving. I had all of my Christmas shopping done by Wednesday the following week. My dad and I put up the Tree and the outside decorations up over Thanksgiving weekend. And we pretty much had almost everything ready to go weeks in advance.

This normally doesn't happen though. Usually it is all a big unorganized mess. I think the reason it went down so well and got done so fast was partly because I was so motivated and excited since I had just gotten out of the Navy on November 16th, and got home the day before Thanksgiving.

This is the first time I have been home for actual Christmas Day in 5 years. I always took New Years off instead because if I took Christmas, I would have to go back to my duty station the day after Christmas.

Back to stuff we did, after we had the majority of everything ready for Christmas, my dad and I went back to work starting a Real Estate Redevelopment Company. So we have been working alot, but it is exciting so we don't mind it.

Great blog, and I think it's awesome you are donating to Kiva.
