Open Thread: Who Would You Like Us to Interview Next?

Posted February 28, 2010 in Open Thread

Freelancers can and do learn from each other. It’s often best to learn from someone else’s mistakes rather than make those mistakes yourself.

One of the things that makes the Freelance Folder community strong is how we all share ideas and information with each other. Each time I see a reader jump in with an answer to a question for another reader, it makes me proud to be a part of this community.

Another way to learn from each other is through reading the experiences of prominent freelancers who have achieved a measure of success.

That’s one of the reasons why we’ve revived interviews on Freelance Folder.
We kicked the interview series off last week with this interview of Deb Ng, but we’d like to do even more interviews–which brings me to my question for this open thread:

Who would you like for us to interview next?

What well-known and successful freelancer do you think that you could learn the most from? (No self-nominations, please.)

We can’t make any promises, but we definitely want to know what you think and we’ll do our best to reach the folks you’re interested in hearing from.

Leave your answers in the comments.

I know this won’t help any, but I’m just looking forward to whoever it is you do interview. I don’t know who the ‘famous’ freelancers are so I’m just looking forward to learning from you and growing in my own mindset from these men and women. I can’t wait to see what names you and the community come up with. I’m really looking forward to these new interviews.

    Keep the ideas coming!

BTW, remember–no self-nominations please. This is about who the freelance community could learn the most from–not about getting your own business covered. :-)

I think Michelle Goodman, author of the The Anti 9 to 5 Guide (http://www.anti9to5guide.com/), would be a great interviewee. Also, Steph Auteri of Freelancedom.com and Chantal Panozzo of WriterAbroad.com.

LivePerson CEO Robert LoCascio may be an interviewee. My Concerns:

    1) Why they deduct hefty fee (30% to 45%), from the freelancers, which I believe is the world’s highest.

    2) Why their payment methods are limited to two options only a) Check and b) Paypal. Paypal is not an universally accepted payment system as the service is not available in many countries (even Paypal recently has got problems with India, the country having the largest pool of freelancers in the world). And check is a slow and inconvenient method of money transfer. They can think about Payoneer – much more global and versatile.

    3) Liveperson is designed around Q&A type services. They don’t have robust escrow system and arbitration policy. The system don’t even allow to rate the buyer. Do they have a plan to focus on these areas?

Last summer I had the privilege of seeing Von Glitschka at the HOW Design Conference in Austin. He was by far my favorite speaker, especially since he disciplined himself away from simply showcasing, or showing off, his work – and instead he gave us 90 minutes on “how to lead a creatively curious life.” Yes, this is something we all do naturally, but it was nice to see someone organize it and speak so eloquently about it.

I hope you will consider him, if not now then in the near future.

    Thanks,
    e
