Great article. It's pretty ironic that many of the more technically oriented internet marketers don't know a whole lot about core marketing principals. One would be 'any contact with the customer or prospect is marketing.'

So the color of your shoes, the way you smell, the type of laptop you're taking notes with during a client meeting -- all marketing.

And while good marketing can rush in new sales, it's a double edged sword - bad marketing is equally as powerful, just in the opposite direction.

But what it really comes down to is if you didn't make the sale, you suck.
If you couldn't get the appointment, you suck.
If you couldn't get the price you wanted, you suck.
If you have a customer with improperly set expectations, you suck.

Fix it and stop complaining; no one else is going to do it for you.

Ya I completely agree with you. It's really wrong to say anything about clients publicly.

You're absolutely right. It's hard to take the road some times but it is an absolute must. Especially with technology documenting every last thing we post/write/share, etc. Look at the fate Megan Fox has suffered because she griped about Transformers director Michael Bay likening him to a Nazi. Well, she got canned from the next installment because she couldn't keep her mouth shut. Poor choice indeed.

I agree with on this. However, there is one area that I would like to bring up and that is if you have had a bad experience with someone who has purposely scammed you I believe you should let others know - simply for the fact that if this person goes to someone else at least people will know what kind of person they are.

It's like buying a bad product or having a bad experience with some company. You let other people know about it. Same thing here.

[...] The One Freelancing Mistake That You Don’t Want to Make The #1 mistake not to make is publicly complaining about a client. The client might just see those words and you will be damaging your professional reputation. If you must complain, I recommend complaining about the off the wall emails you receive from people that you would never ever accept as a client. ;-) [...]
