Carol Burnett is my other favorite comedienne. And I agree: Lucille O’Ball was a trendsetter and she did it with style and elegance. I can’t think of anyone else who approaches her mastery of the craft, with most other comics thinking that their potty mouths are funny.

Yes, I think that she was an incredible talent. If you look past the comic character she played, you find a woman who was truly determined to take charge of her destiny. I think that she was ahead of her time.

Laura, you tied in a famous person nicely with this post! Lucille Ball was a dynamite actress, a shrewd business woman, and a timeless comedienne. Sadly, when she died she couldn’t allow herself to receive the applause of her fans and she carried a torch for Desi Arnez to her grave. RIP.

What was really fun about writing this article was looking up old “I Love Lucy” repeats on the TV schedule and telling family that I was watching them “for work.”

(My daughter watched with me and laughed as hard as I did. Just goes to show that Lucy is timeless.”
